GUWAHATI: The State Assembly passed the Assam Direct Recruitment Commissions for Analogous Posts in Class III and Class IV Bill, 2021. The government will form two separate commissions to recruit candidates for Class III and Class IV posts. The passage of this bill has paved the way for providing the promised one lakh jobs.

Each of the two commissions will compile all the analogous posts of various departments and hold examinations for recruitment.

Speaking on the bill in the Assembly today, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "The passage of this bill will let the government provide the promised jobs to one lakh youths of the state. The government has already recruited around 2,000 candidates. By May, the government will recruit 30,000-40,000 candidates.

"Earlier, individual departments had to issue advertisements for recruitment. That process was time-taking and costly. Even there was an overlapping of examination dates, making the candidate take one examination when there were two on the same day. If we go by the recruitment system prevalent in the state earlier, we will not be able to recruit one lakh candidates even in five years. The commission for class III (grade III) will compile all analogous posts and hold examinations, so will the commission for class IV (grade IV).

"The candidates can prefer the departments they want to serve in their applications. The examination system will be the same as the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). The two commissions will be on an experimental basis. If they can ensure transparent and clean recruitment, we will think of making permanent commissions."

The Chief Minister made it clear that the government would not engage any private agency in recruitment. "I have also instructed the Assam Police also not to engage any private agency in the recruitment process," he said.

The Chief Minister also said that the government would consider some suggestions of the opposition parties later. And that made the opposition withdraw their proposals for amendment.
