GUWAHATI: A high-level State BJP delegation led by State party president Ranjeet Kumar Dass including Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, and State BJP (organizing) general secretary Phani Sarma met the Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the Administrative Staff College here on Sunday and submitted a memorandum to him highlighting the anomalies in the final NRC.

Addressing the media after submitting the memorandum, Dass said, “We have informed the Union Home Minister through the memorandum about the inclusion of lakhs of foreigners in the final NRC and the exclusion of lakhs of genuine Indian citizens from it.”

Dass further informed that “the Union Home Minister had assured the delegation of taking all measures to ensure that names of all foreigners are deleted from the final NRC. He also stressed that name of each person who came to India before 1971 will be included in the citizens’ register.”

The Union Minister — who is also the BJP national president — assured the delegation “of implementing all the measures that have been chalked out to make the NRC foolproof.” Dass also said that the Union Home Minister told them that “there is no reason for any apprehension by any Indian of his/her name being left out from the final NRC list.”
