UPPL announces names of 8 more candidates for the third-phase of Assam election

KOKRAJHAR: The United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) on Tuesday declared the names of eight more candidates for the third-phase Assembly election slated to be held on April 6. The total number of candidates of the party is now 11 in the areas under BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council).

The list was declared by UPPL general secretary Maoti Brahma Hazoary in the presence of EMs (Executive Members) Ranjit Basumatary and Ukhil Mashahary besides senior party leaders.

The eight UPPL candidates for the third-phase Assembly polls are: former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma (63-Chapaguri), Lawrence Islary (30-Kokrajhar East), Manaranjan Brahma (29-Kokrajhar West), Somnath Narzary (28-Gossaigaon), Jayanta Basumatary (31-Sidli), Phanin Boro (33-Bijni), Leho Ram Boro (58-Tamulpur) and Bhupen Boro (62-Barama).

Earlier, the party had declared the names of Gabinda Chandra Basumatary (69-Udalguri), Ratendra Daimary (70-Mazbat), and Azad Kamal (65-Kalaigaon) for the second-phase Assembly election scheduled on April 1.

Interacting with reporters, UPPL general secretary Hazoary said, "The UPPL will emerge victorious in the forthcoming Assembly election."

He further stated, "Our party is fighting against the corrupt practices of the BPF (Bodoland People's Front). We are striving to bring about a change in the region and the masses have come forward to support the UPPL."

The UPPL will go for friendly contests with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at Mazbat, Kalaigaon and Bijni, he pointed out.
