GUWAHATI, Sept 19: The State Wildlife Board, chaired by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, today approved three projects and rejected one on environmental grounds.

The projects that have been approved are construction of broad gauge railway line from Jogighopa to Myguri, IND Adept project of Guwahati Refinery of IOCL and revamp of INDMAX unit of Guwahati Refinery.

A broad gauge railway line project from Missamari was rejected contending that it will affect a large area of forest land.

Three other projects were referred to the expert committee while re-designing was recommended for one project - a State PWD road.

Chief Minister Gogoi, while deliberating in the meeting, said, "Development and environment should go hand in hand and development should take place in harmony with the environment and its constituents".

He said the government has adopted a balanced approach in maintaining and protecting an environment on one hand and accelerating development on the other.
