Guwahati: Observing the poor pass percentage in the HSLC exam 2025, state Education Minister Ranoj Pegu declared that the education department will focus on the areas that didn’t perform well.

Speaking to the media, Minister Pegu said, “Compared to the results last year, the results this time have gone down. The results in some districts were not good. In areas with Scheduled Castes and Tea Garden communities, the pass percentage remains below the state average. The tea garden areas are educationally backward, and we have taken steps to improve the education system there. We have already set up model schools in these areas, and we’ll increase their number so that the results can be better. We are especially concerned about the results among SC students, as they have not performed to expectations. The Education department will take up a series of measures to improve the standard of education in SC areas. The students in sar areas, belonging to the general category, have not performed well, and this has resulted in the poor performance of Goalpara, Dhubri, Cachar and Sribhumi districts. We will give special attention to this aspect.”

The education minister further said that the number of HS schools will be increased. For the next five years, we will arrange for HS classes in colleges and model colleges without such classes.

Later, Ranoj Pegu posted on X, “It is concerning that the pass percentage among Scheduled Castes (58.56%) and Tea Garden communities (51.89%) remains below the state average of 63.98% in HSLC 2025. In 2025–26, the Education Department will prioritise focused interventions in these two social sectors to bridge the learning gap and promote inclusive educational growth.”
