Guwahati: Several xatradhikars and Bhakat Vaishnabs from Assam are scheduled to attend the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj. They will perform ‘Bhaona,’ ‘Bhagabat Path,’ ‘Naam Prasanga,’ and ‘Apsara Nritya,’ etc., to provide a glimpse of the state’s culture to the devotees assembled at the event.
The xatradhikar of Uttar Kamalabari Satra of Majuli, Janardan Dev Goswami, on Friday started his journey to the Mahakumbh Mela site, along with a number of Bhakat Vaishnabs. The party is slated to halt for the night in Guwahati’s Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra before resuming their journey to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh by road. The Uttar Kamalabari Satra has set up a temporary Naamghar with a Monikut at the festival site. Once at the Mahakumbh mela site, they will display the traditional cultural items of ‘Bhaona,’ ‘Sattriya Nritya,’ ‘Naam Prasanga,’ etc.
Xatradhikar Janardan Dev Goswami is also carrying with him a Bhagabat from their xatra to the Mahakumbh mela, where they are scheduled to hold a ‘Bhagabat Path.’ A large group of people, including Gayan-Bayans, gave the party a ceremonial send-off from Majuli.
The xatradhikar of Sri Sri Auniati Satra of Majuli, Pitambar Dev Goswami, will also participate in the Mahakumbh, and he will leave for Prayagraj on January 30, accompanied by the Bhakat Vaishnabs. There they will perform Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev’s ‘Ram Bijoy’ Ankiya Bhaona, ‘Hiya Naam,’ ‘Apsara Nritya,’ and ‘Bhagabat Path,’ among others.
Meanwhile, the xatradhikar of Garmur Satra, Paramananda Dev Goswami, has already left for the Mahakumbh mela at Prayagraj. The secretary general of the Asom Satra Mahasabha, Kusum Kumar Mahanta, is also scheduled to participate in the Mahakumbh.
It should be mentioned here that the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela 2025 started on January 13 and will conclude on February 26 at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. Lakhs of devotees have gathered at the Mahakumbh, which is held every 144 years.
