Basistha police bust fake currency racket; two from Manipur held

GUWAHATI: Acting on a tip-off, a team from Basistha Police Station intercepted a Hyundai i20 (DL4C AX 0800) near the Audi showroom at Beharbari. Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) were recovered from the vehicle. The arrested accused have been identified as Wasim Wangmayum (21) of Lilong, Thoubal, Manipur, and Samurailatpam Prasanta Sharma (25) of Mantrikhong, Imphal, Manipur. Seized items include 36 pieces of 500 FICN with a face value of Rs 18,000, the Hyundai i20 with its key, a Poco Android phone (Wasim), and an iPhone 15 Pro (Prasanta).

Police said that the duo brought the fake notes from Noida and Delhi for circulation in Guwahati and are suspected to be part of a larger network. Further investigation is ongoing.
