Guwahati: Basistha Police conducted a late-night naka checking operation on Friday at the Basistha Flyover near the BJP office, acting on a tip-off. The operation, aimed at intercepting vehicles suspected of transporting illegal drugs, led to the apprehension of a drug smuggler and the recovery of suspected heroin.

The police intercepted an Alto K10 (AS01QC4643) during the operation. Upon inspection, the driver was identified as Taibur Rahman (27), son of Abdul Hamid, hailing from Kalgachia under Kalgachia Police Station in Barpeta district.

During the search, the police recovered two soap boxes hidden in Rahman's pant pocket, which were found to contain a total of 20.91 grams of suspected heroin. The Alto K10 vehicle, believed to have been used in the transportation of the drugs, was also seized as part of the operation.

Rahman has been taken into custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated against him.
