TINSUKIA: “Why do people from India and Northeast in particular make bee-line for eye treatment in Nepal despite having best technology and expertise in Ophthalmology in Assam? Where our shortcomings lay?” remarked Dr Subra Kinkor Goswami, president of Ophthalmological Society of Assam (OSA) during inaugural programme of 2-day 57th Annual Conference of OSACON 2024 that concluded on Sunday at Tinsukia in presence of distinguished ophthalmologists of Assam of yesteryears and present, host of young doctors. He also opined that the young ophthalmologists should strive for outsourcing in societal cause and advance technology-based research and he also paid rich tribute to Prof (Dr) LC Dutta. Prof Madan Sarma former vice chancellor i/c of Tezpur University was present as chief guest.
The conference held under the aegis of Tinsukia Academy of Ophthalmology witnessed felicitation to nonagenarian Dr Atiqul Hussain by Dr Nareswar Dutta, Life Achievement Award to Dr Mamoni Baruah of Dibrugarh and Dr Dipali Deka of Guwahati. A souvenir edited by Dr Bharati Dutt Dhoundial was unveiled on the occasion. Dr GS Gogoi took over charge of president for the next term from Dr SK Goswami. Mesmerizing cultural events in the evening also captivated the audience.
