Bani Chakraborty a retired educationist, social worker, philanthropist, an active worker of Ram Krishna Mission and Saradha Sangha, Maligaon left for her heavenly abode on November 25 at Central Hospital, Maligaon due to her age related ailment, for which she was under treatment for several months. Late Chakraborty was born on June 22, 1939 at Katihar, Bihar where she completed her schooling. She later moved to Guwahati as her father was serving in the N.F. Railway, Maligaon. After completion of her graduation she joined Assam Railway Higher Secondary School, Panbazar as a teacher. She served the institution with dedication for over 3 decades and retired in 1997. After retirement Chakraborty was actively involved in socio cultural activities through Ram Krishna Mission and Saradha Sangha. She was quite demanding about hygiene, punctuality, and discipline in her role as a teacher. She always used to take special care for weaker students by providing free coaching and also helped poor and needy students with books and other study materials. Her door was always open for students for any help related to studies in spite of her strictness in the school she had a compassionate heart which she proved with her love and affection to the children. She contributed generously to different institutions regularly.

Her death news has cast a pale of gloom in and around Kamakhya Nagar and Maligaon area. Many of her well wishers visited her house at Kamakhya Nagar and hospital to pay their last homage. Many of her students were seen mourning. I was a student Railway Higher Secondary School and could know her closely how kind and helpful she was which is very difficult to forget. She also possessed an amiable disposition due to which she was loved and respected by all.

Chakraborty was 85 and survived by a son, daughter-in-law and grandson, her husband predeceased her. Her funeral was largely attended and death was widely condoled. Today on the occasion of Adya Sharddha, I pay my homage for the peaceful rest of her soul.
