Arms and Ammunitions Recovered at Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: A huge cache of arms and ammunition have been recovered by the Kokrajhar Police from Gossaigaon area on Monday.

As per reports, during a search operation, three AK 56 rifles, magazines of three AK 56 and 157 rounds of bullets were seized. Investigations are going on.

Security personnel recovered three AK Rifles, camping and food material from Ripu Reserve Forest in continuing operations against militants operating in Bodoland along Indo-Bhutan border, informed GP Singh, additional director general of police (law & order).

"Kokrajhar Police recovered 3 AK Rifles, camping and food material from Ripu Reserve Forest in continuing operations against terrorists operating in Bodoland along Indi-Bhutan border. Mission - Free, fair, peaceful ALA Elections 2021," tweeted Assam DGP GP Singh.

"To maintain peace and order and to ensure free & fair elections, Kokrajhar Police launched an extensive search operation in Ripu Forest under Gossaigaon PS & recovered huge numbers of illegal arms and ammunitions, dry rations & utensils stored & kept concealed under the ground," Kokrajhar Police tweeted.

This comes ahead of the second and third phase of assembly elections slated on April 1 and 6. Moreover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Assam again on April 1 to boost the electioneering in the state in the ongoing assembly elections. He will be campaigning for the third phase of the Assam Assembly Elections and will address a public rally at Kokrajhar.

As per reports, L R Bishnoi, Additional director general of police Assam and Inspector General of Police Bodoland Territoriutonomous District was quoted, "Prime Minister is to visit Kokrajhar on April 1. Due to this, strict security arrangements have been made in the district."

He further added that the group could have planned to do something big in the jungle, however, the exact plan is not known. Bishnoi stated that the police team conducted a search and recovered "three AK 56, three AK 56 magazines and 157 rounds of bullets."
