DIBRUGARH: The rampant cattle thefts continue unabated in Dibrugarh, with shocking new CCTV footage revealing how thieves are now using luxury vehicles to steal cows under the cover of the night.

A CCTV video captured the entire sequence of the crime, just around 500 meters from the Barbaruah Police Station in front of Rameshwar Lal Higher Secondary School along National Highway 37 in Dibrugarh district.

The footage, recorded by a CCTV camera installed at a commercial establishment, shows two individuals forcefully dragging two cows and loading them into a luxury vehicle. In a particularly heart-wrenching scene, a calf born just days ago was seen helplessly chasing the vehicle, which had its mother.

The incident highlights the growing brazenness of the cattle theft syndicates operating across Dibrugarh. These gangs appear to be targeting cows kept near roadsides and even from cowsheds, taking full advantage of the darkness of night and the use of high-end vehicles to carry out their operations with speed and stealth. The incident has raised serious questions about the safety of livestock in the region and the need for intensified patrolling, especially during night. Residents have demanded immediate police action and stricter surveillance to curb the thriving black market linked to cattle theft.
