TANGLA: The Golden Jubilee celebration of Tangla College, which is underway, hosted a grand cultural rally on a vibrant note that captivated the spirit of unity, tradition, and academic pride today. The rally, a highlight of the six-day extravaganza, showcased the rich cultural diversity of Assam and the neighbouring regions, setting the perfect tone for the college’s 50th-anniversary festivities. Thousands of students, faculty members, alumni, and local residents participated in the rally, which began from the college premises and traversed through the main streets of Tangla town. The colourful procession featured traditional dance troupes, musical performances, and tableaux representing the diverse communities of northeast, including Bodo, Assamese, Adivasi, Nepali, Bengali, Garo, Ahom, Rabha, Koch-Rajbongshi, and Muslims among others. The participants donned their traditional attire, adding vibrant hues to the rally, while folk dancers performed Bihu, Bagurumba, Jhumur, and other traditional dances, enthralling the onlookers gathered along the route. The rhythmic beats of the dhol, pepa, kham, and nagara created an electrifying atmosphere, echoing the essence of cultural heritage of the state. The rally was ceremoniously flagged off by Assamese actress Amrita Gogoi and Bodo actress Helena Daimary .

Speaking at the event, Tangla College Principal Dr Prasen Daimari highlighted its significance and asserted that the cultural rally is not just a celebration of Tangla College’s glorious journey over the past five decades, but also a tribute to the vibrant traditions that have shaped the identity of the institution in particular and of the region at large. Distinguished guests, including faculty members, alumni, and local dignitaries, joined the rally, reflecting the collective pride and nostalgia of the college community. The participation of former students, some of whom have excelled in various professional fields, added a special charm to the event. The students of various junior colleges and schools also contributed to the rally’s splendour, performing folk songs and showcasing traditional crafts. The event witnessed overwhelming support from the local community, with people lining the streets, cheering, and capturing the lively moments. The concluding day will witness an open session and a grand cultural night featuring Indian Idol-fame Pawandeep Rajan and Bollywood singer Ritu Pathak. Tangla College, established in 1970, has been a beacon of higher education in Udalguri and the erstwhile Darrang district, nurturing generations of students in Arts, Commerce, Science, and Computer Science.
