Boko: Kamrup district administration and police jointly launched an operation against the illegal brick kilns in the Singra-Roumari area under Boko Revenue Circle on Tuesday. Boko Revenue Circle Dibas Bordoloi and Boko PS officer in-charge Rajib Nath led a team that reached the Singra-Roumari area and spotted many illegal brick kilns on the paddy fields adjacent to villages. The team, with the help of an excavator, has demolished ten illegal brick kiln structures in the area. Villagers from the Singra area said that every year after the monsoon season, some dishonest traders start making Bangla Bhata bricks. The illegal brick quarries are burnt down and the ashes and smoke cover the area. This can lead to respiratory difficulties. In addition, villagers also alleged that the brick kilns burn pieces of valuable trees like sal, teak etc., which are collected from the Singra Reserve Forest area under the West Kamrup Division with or without the knowledge of the forest department. Villagers also said that they swiftly start fires using automobile tires. This creates a foul smell in the entire area. Despite repeated warnings, locals complained that these business owners often resort to confrontations when challenged. However, the recent operation has been widely praised by the community for taking decisive action. Revenue Circle Officer Dibas Bordoloi, speaking during the operation, confirmed that the information about the illegal kilns had prompted immediate intervention. He assured that similar operations would be carried out in other areas within the Boko Revenue Circle if further illegal activities are reported.
