DIGBOI: Assam’s Digboi-based Transport vendor Pronob Jyoti Konwar, during his address to media today morning, alleged that the payment due to the transport vendor since November 2024, attached to Tingrai hub, has not been paid by Connect India E-Commerce Services Pvt Ltd against delivery of a large consignment of Flipkart.
Konwar, in his statement to media, said that the company had, via 11 months of mutual agreement, powered him with rights to provide transport services to carry the Flipkart consignments to the customers on rental basis. Now the company is no longer in the service with Flipkart in the region since November 2024 but the payment to the vendor has been held up mysteriously. After several false assurances, the company officials have till date failed to keep its words, alleged the only Digboi vendor. “I am unable to make payments to several locally hired vehicles due to non receipt of payments from the company,” said the vendor. Earlier, for a similar discrepancy, several delivery boys had resorted to nearly 5 days of strike which later was resolved after the visit of a company official to Digboi.
Recently, in Tripura, a company employee was put behind the bars for similar charges, informed an employee of the company adding that the company has almost withdrawn from the Northeast region for their ineffective services to Flipkart’s online customers.
Meanwhile, Konwar alleged that the company officials have been falsely assuring him of the releasing payments for long but the assurances have not materialised yet. “Cheating innocent Assamese vendors including youths by such companies is nothing new to Assam but we are devising means to tighten the noose in case the payment is not released within a couple of days,” warned Konwar, an active Tai Ahom social activist.
Following the termination of its services, another vendor has been assigned to distribute the Flipkart consignments to the customers in and around Digboi, said Konwar. It is noteworthy here that the Connect India E-Commerce Services Pvt Ltd has been losing its credentials in the region allegedly due to mismanagement of payments and local resentment brewing rapidly against the company.
