KHERONI: A concerning incident occurred during the drilling of a 420-feet deep borewell for summer sable at the residence of Shankar Kumar in Gautam Basti, near the CRPF Group Centre, under Khatkhati PS, Karbi Anglong. The drilling process triggered an eruption of unidentified material, with an unknown gas and residual mud forcefully emerging from the borewell site.

In response to this incident, the Additional District Magistrate in charge (i/c) Bokajan Sub-Division, Karbi Anglong district, has issued an order imposing strict restrictions. All movement of people and materials is prohibited within a 200-meter radius of the borewell site until further notice. This restriction will remain in place pending the final analysis report of the residual mud from the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Laboratory, Dehradun which will determine the presence of any entrapped gases and until an expert team from the Geological Survey of India conducts an on-site assessment.

Authorities have urged the public to comply with the restrictions to ensure safety while investigations are underway.
