DIBRUGARH: In line with its long-standing commitment to health, education, and empowerment, the Zaloni Ladies Club, Duliajan organized a health awareness programme to mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day.

The event was held at Chachaji Uccha Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Bosapathar, Dibrugarh, and focused on sensitizing adolescent girls to the importance of menstrual hygiene, physical well-being, and emotional health.

Established in 1962, the Zaloni Ladies Club has been a pillar of community development, with Project Sanskar, its flagship initiative, driving impactful interventions in health and education. The awareness programme, specifically designed for students of Classes VIII to X, aimed to foster a better understanding of menstrual health, break societal taboos, and promote informed practices among young girls.

The session featured an enlightening keynote address by Dr Lina Das, Medical Officer from Duliajan Urban Health Centre, who highlighted key aspects of personal hygiene and women’s health beyond adolescence. Dr Das discussed critical topics such as menstrual hygiene management, preventive healthcare, and the importance of emotional resilience during adolescence, offering practical, evidence-based advice to the participants.

Presiding over the programme, Geety Rekha Phukan, President of the Zaloni Ladies Club, led a demonstration highlighting the significance of World Menstrual Hygiene Day, observed globally on May 28.

In her address, Phukan underscored the need to normalize conversations around menstruation and foster an environment of openness, dignity, and understanding. She called for collective action to break long standing taboos and empower young girls through awareness and education.

Naba Mallakia Goswami, Vice-President of the Club, along with other members, graced the occasion, lending their presence and support to the cause. The programme saw enthusiastic participation from the students, who engaged actively with the discussions and expressed their thoughts and questions.

As a part of the event, the Zaloni Ladies Club also distributed sanitary napkins under the name Pahi among the schoolgirls, ensuring access to essential menstrual hygiene products and further reinforcing the club’s dedication to empowering young women with knowledge and resources.

Through such initiatives, the Zaloni Ladies Club continues to play a vital role in building a more informed, healthy, and confident generation of girls in the community.
