GAURISAGAR: “Human beings are regarded as the best animal in the world. When will humans be superior to other animals? When people are guided by their own judgment, conscience, engage in altruistic thinking, engage in collective thinking as opposed to self-centered thinking and create monuments of unity, peace, progress in society, then people will be considered as the best creatures,” stated Xatradhikar Dr Pitambor Deva Goswami, an internationally renowned spiritual leader, while speaking on his 67th birth anniversary held at Charing Raas Mahotsav Kala Krishti Kendra in Sivasagar on Tuesday.
Dr Goswami said that birthdays were celebrated for the happiness of human life, but on such occasions, knives were handed to tender children to cut the cake. He added that according to our tradition, clay candles were lit for any auspicious deed, but on the contrary, children were made to extinguish candles, taking them into darkness.
The meeting was chaired by prominent educationist and orator Tuwaram Khanikar while former DGP of Assam and Chief Information Officer of Assam Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta inaugurated the meeting. In his speech, Mahanta said that we see the potential of leadership in the Xatradhikar. He said, “I think I will have the fortune of seeing Greater Assam under his leadership.”
The other dignitaries who attended the function were Deka Xatradhikar of Auniati Xatra Debananda Deva Goswami, Registrar of Auniati University Dr Madhurya Mandita Baruah, prominent cultural activists Kailash Sharma, Jayant Deka, and Tulasi Rajkhowa, Assistant Professor of Majuli College Biswa Barua, President of Sambhavana Divas Celebration Committee, and Khirode Khanikar, President of Charing Raas Mahotsav and Kala Krishiti Kendra, and many other dignitaries.
The meeting started with a guru vandana performed by Surraj Gogoi while Pranjal Kakoti, Secretary, Charing Raas Mahotsav and Kala Krishiti Kendra, delivered the welcome speech. The event was anchored by Saurav Saikia, Milon Khanikar, and Utpal Khanikar, Executive President and joint secretaries respectively of the reception committee Sambhawana Divas Udjapan Samiti.
In the function, the Smarak Gantha (memorial book) ‘Sthitapragya,’ edited by Nitu Goswami, was unveiled by Dr Madhurya Mandita Baruah. Moreover two other books ‘Dr Sri Sri Pitambar Deva Goswami The Exemplary Spiritual Leader of Our Times,’ written by Dipanka Saikia and Xatradhikar’s book ‘Britishar Buddhidipta Soudh London,’ was unveiled by Kailash Sarmah and Jayanta Deka.
Notably the birthday of the 16th Xatradhikar of Auniati Satra, Dr Pitambardev Goswami, has been celebrated as Sambhavana Divas since 2004 and the organizers have been honouring special individuals who have worked for the welfare of the society on this day. On the occasion of the 67th birth anniversary of the Xatradhikar, more than 50 organizations were also felicitated.
