BJP-Led Government In Assam Completes One Year In Office

Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Assam under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has completed one year in office on May 9.

Union home minister Amit Shah is on a two-day visit to the state to mark this occassion. Several projects will be inaugurated and launched by the Home Minister during his time in Assam.

A public rally will also be addressed by Amit Shah to mark the first anniversary of the BJP government.

Moreover, the state government is planning on its own to commemorate one year in power with the launch of mega projects. The ruling BJP is eyeing to use the ocassion as the ideal moment to further make its base robust and consolidate their position ahead of next year's panchayat election and 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

"We are planning to start a fresh membership drive in Assam later this year to achieve a goal of around 50 lakh BJP members in Assam. Besides peace and development, making Assam flood-free is our goal," BJP national general secretary Dilip Saikia said earlier.

The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), who is in alliance with the saffron party and is a partner in the BJP-led government in Assam hosted a programme at its party headquarters in Guwahati on May 8 to mark the completion of one year of CM Sarma's tenure.
