DHUBRI: “Child Marriage-Free India Campaign” was launched by the District Child Protection Unit at the Dhubri Girls’ Higher Secondary School with a view to eradicate the practices of child marriage from the society on Wednesday. The campaign was attended by notable personalities including Deputy Director of Election, Sugata Siddhartha Goswami, Principal of the college, Foizal Haque, Dhubri District Information and Public Relation Officer, Snigdha Rani Das, Protection Officer of the District Child Protection Unit,Nur Alam and others.
The speakers emphasized the importance of preventing child marriage and discussed the legal consequences of engaging in such practices.
They highlighted that the legal age for marriage is 18 for girls and 21 for boys, and that anyone found guilty of child marriage would face severe penalties.
The programme also focused on raising awareness about child trafficking, child labour, and the importance of reporting such incidents to the authorities. The speakers informed the audience that they could contact the Child Helpline number 1098 or reach out to the district administration, Social Welfare Department, or the Police Department to report any cases of child marriage or child trafficking.
