Guwahati Refinery Hospital Doctor Arrested For Allegedly Sexually Harassing Nurse

GUWAHATI: On Friday 28 January, the Guwahati police arrested a doctor of the Guwahati Refinery hospital for sexually harassing a nurse.

The doctor has been identified as Dr. Bhaskar Baruah working in the Guwahati Refinery hospital.

He was arrested by police on Friday during the night hours from the Kamalpur area in Baihata Chariali of Guwahati city. It is reported that the doctor allegedly attempted to sexually harass a nurse at the same hospital.

According to reports the incident took place three days ago on Tuesday 25 January at Cabin number 2 of the Guwahati Refinery hospital.

On Tuesday at night, the doctor being in a drunken state closed the door of the cabin, moved ahead towards the nurse and tried to sexually harass her taking advantage of the situation. The nurse managed to escape from the cabin.

The victim later filed a complaint against the accused doctor at the Noonmati Police station of the city and on the basis of the complaint filed a case under IPC section 354 was registered against the doctor for his sexual assault on the woman.

Since the incident, the doctor Baruah has been hiding to escape from the police but his mobile number was tracked by the police officials.

Following the tracked mobile the police subsequently found him at Kamalpur location of Guwahati in the house of his relative. He was then nabbed from there.

There are numerous cases of sexual assault against women that are registered in different parts of the country among which many are often dismissed.

In a recent incident, a 20-year-old lady was allegedly abducted, beaten up and sexually assaulted by a team of men including women. The incident took place on Wednesday 26 January in the Kasturba Nagar located in the east part of the national capital city Delhi.
