BISWANATH CHARIALI: On the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a district-level programme was organized by District Social Welfare Office in collaboration with the District Administration, Biswanath, at Sankardev Auditorium, Borgang Behali. A number of dignitaries were present in the programme including Ranjit Dutta, MP, Sonitpur, MLAs Promod Borthakur, Utpal Borah and Diganta Ghatowal, Munindra Nath Ngatey, District Commissioner, Subhasish Baruah, Senior Superintendent of Police, Biswanath, Liza Talukdar, CEO, Zilla Parishad, and others.
DC Munindra Nath Ngatey commenced the programme with an introductory message that substance abuse poses a serious threat not only to the health and well-being of individuals but also to the social and economic fabric of communities. MP Ranjit Dutta highlighted the alarming rise in drug addiction, especially among youths and also urged them to stay away from addiction and instead focus on education and positive lifestyle choices.
A puppet show on drug abuse by Anganwadi workers was one of the major attractions of the programme. A dance drama focussing on ‘Say No to Drugs and Yes to Life’ was also performed by local artistes followed by an audio visual show on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan to captivate the minds of the different stakeholders present during the programme.
