DIBRUGARH: SPIC MACAY Dibrugarh chapter began its classical series, sponsored by SRF in select educational institutions in Numaligarh, Jorhat, Moran, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia, from June 16 to June 21. The classical series will feature performances by renowned Santoor maestro Abir Hossain accompanied by Jayanta Sarkar on the Tabla, and Kathak exponents Vidha Lal and Nisha Kesari.
The Dibrugarh Chapter of SPIC MACAY aims to cover as many as 12 educational institutions across selected towns, such as Prayas Vidya Mandir and Shankardev Shishu Niketan in Numaligarh; Sarojini Devi Ucchatar Madhyamik Valika Vidyalaya and Rebokanta Barua Public School in Jorhat; Janamangal Adarsha Andha Vidyalaya, Moran Oil HS School in Moran; Delhi Public School, Shiksha Valley, and Sampoorna Kendra Vidyalaya in Dibrugarh; and Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya and Budding Buds in Tinsukia, to name a few.
Vidha Lal is a Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, an empanelled artiste at ICCR, and a top-grade artiste from Delhi Doordarshan and has performed in various programmes in India and abroad. Another Kathak exponent, Nisha Kesari, has been practising the art for more than 17 years and has also been awarded the prestigious CCRT scholarship and the Jaya Appaswamy Scholarship award for Kathak.
Simultaneously, Abir Hossain, a Sarod exponent, is a Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee and an empanelled artiste at ICCR and a regular artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan. He is currently a guru at the world’s most renowned Classical Music organization, ITC Sangeet Research Academy.
Jayanta Sarkar, from the Farukhabad Gharana and a faculty member of the same institution, will accompany Abir Hossain on the tabla.
