BOKO: In a tragic incident at Dhaigaon-Bollagaon under Krishnai Police Station in Goalpara district, three school-aged girls drowned and died on Wednesday evening. The incident caused a stir in the area.
According to the locals, the victims fell into a deep pond-like hole situated in the middle of a paddy field in the village. They said that the little girls were playing together on Wednesday. When the father of two of the victims’, Shameer Ali, returned home from work and did not find the children at home, he started searching for them along with the villagers and around nine in the night they found the bodies of the three girls.
The deceased were identified as Ali’s daughters Shabita Begum (13 years) and Charjina Begum (7 years), and Azmina Begum (12 years), niece of Ali, who was living at his house.
Krishnai Police ASP, Crime, and DSP, Border of Goalpara district, went to the spot following which the victims’ bodies were sent to Goalpara Civil Hospital for postmortem. Locals alleged that the owner of the paddy field was digging a pond-type hole without any safety measures and therefore the incident happened. They demanded the police administration to investigate and take proper action.
