Shillong: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier successfully apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals and thwarted several smuggling attempts along the international border on January 20, 2025. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, troops from the 200 Battalion of BSF launched a targeted operation in South Garo Hills, intercepting the individuals involved in illegal activities.

The apprehended individuals were identified as Md. Sakibul Basir (20), Adnan Mahamod Rohim (22), Sojib Ahamed (17), Md. Sakib Hussain (19), and Md. Saju (27), all residents of Mymensingh district in Bangladesh. The arrests highlight the BSF’s commitment to preventing unlawful cross-border activities.

Additional operations conducted in East Khasi Hills (EKH) and West Khasi Hills (WKH) resulted in the interception of a significant quantity of contraband goods. The seized items, valued at Rs 13.54 lakh, included cattle, sugar, blankets, cumin seeds (jeera), liquor, and other smuggled goods.
