SHILLONG: Congress leader and East Shillong MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh have questioned the decision of the State government for granting permission to the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) to hold a meeting at Nongpoh and Shillong on Saturday last.

It may be mentioned that the meeting was held as BJP national general secretary Arun Singh, who is on a two-day visit to Meghalaya, has asked the party members in Meghalaya to work like a Trojan to ensure that the saffron lotus blooms in 2023 in the hill State.

Earlier, the government has issued a notification not allowing any meetings due to the sudden rise of COVID-19 in East Khasi Hills and other parts of the State.

"These people (BJP) have come from outside the State, however, there is no need for them to quarantine and this shows that protocol is to be followed by the general public and we have to question the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance as to how this is possible?" Ampareen Lyngdoh said while speaking to The Sentinel.

She informed that earlier a local family applied for permission to conduct a wedding with only fewer than 10 people in attendance because of matters that can't be avoided but their permission was denied. They were instructed to hold their wedding on a different date.
