SHILLONG: Acting on specific intelligence, troops of the 4th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya successfully thwarted a smuggling attempt by trans-border criminals.

The operation, carried out in challenging terrain near the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IB) in the East Khasi Hills district, led to the seizure of contraband items valued at approximately ₹51.5 lakh.

Earlier this week, a significant drug disposal operation took place in Baghora, where a large quantity of seized drugs was destroyed in the presence of the Drugs Disposal Committee.

The destroyed items included 1981.8 grams of heroin, 14.44 grams of brown sugar, 238.398 kilograms of cannabis, 244 bottles of cough syrup, and 335 tablets. The total value of the drugs was estimated at ₹5.21 crore. This destruction is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and ensure that seized narcotics do not make it into the market.

In another operation, South Salmara Police seized 252 grams of heroin worth ₹2 crore after receiving reliable intelligence. The drugs, smuggled from a neighboring state, were found during a targeted search at a house in South Salmara Mankachar.

The heroin is believed to be part of a larger drug network operating in the region and was found hidden in the premises of the house. One person was arrested, and investigations are ongoing to identify other suspects involved.
