SHILLONG: The state government is currently engaged in a consultative process aimed at streamlining the multiple categories of teachers across Meghalaya’s school education system. Director of School Education and Literacy, Bantailang J. Kharshandi, clarified the government’s position in response to growing queries about the future of diverse teaching categories. “As per Government of India instructions, the Government of India actually is looking to streamline the entire process because here we have so many categories of schools. Apart from government SSA also we have the non-government category which comprises ad hoc, deficit and so on so forth,” he stated.

He further explained the current move is not a final decision but a part of a broader consultative approach. “So now we are in the process. We are trying to streamline. So that’s why we are carrying out this exercise to take the opinion of people. This is just a consultation process, we have not yet finalised, we have not yet come up with the final decision, but to take everybody into confidence, take the opinion through these NOCs and then we’ll come up with a final session on this,” Kharshandi added.
