SHILLONG: A proud achievement for Meghalaya, as acclaimed filmmaker Pradip Kurbah has garnered international acclaim at the 47th Moscow International Film Festival with his latest Khasi-language masterpiece, Ha Lyngkha Bneng (In the Heavens Above). The film not only clinched the Best Film award but also earned Kurbah the prestigious title of Best Director, placing him among the world’s most visionary filmmakers.

Set against the mystical and deeply spiritual landscapes of the Khasi Hills, Ha Lyngkha Bneng weaves a profound narrative rooted in indigenous folklore, memory, and human resilience. With hauntingly poetic visuals and emotionally resonant storytelling, Kurbah’s film explores the metaphysical journey between life, loss, and the afterlife—imbued with a distinct cultural depth that captivated the jury and audiences alike.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in his social media handle wrote, “Huge congratulations to Bah Pradip Kurbah on his truly well-deserved international recognition!

His powerful film ‘Ha Lyngkha Bneng’ has won both Best Film and Best Director at the prestigious 47th Moscow International Film Festival.”

“This remarkable honour is not only a celebration of his immense talent, but also a proud moment for our culture and heritage. Through his storytelling, he has brought the richness of our roots to the global stage, reminding the world of the beauty and depth that our state carries. Bah Pradip’s work inspires, uplifts, and paves the way for many more stories yet to be told. His success is a reflection of what is possible when passion meets purpose,” the CM said.
