NGOs upset over stalemate in ILP (Inner Line Permit) issue

A REPORTER.

SHILLONG: A day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah did not make clear the stand of the Centre on the demand for implementation of the ILP (Inner Line Permit) in Meghalaya, tires were burnt, graffiti with the slogan 'No ILP No Rest' was seen on walls across the State. This development took place in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It may be mentioned that the Pro-ILP groups expressed disappointment on Saturday after Shah met leaders of various civil society organizations (CSOs). This meeting took place after he had chaired a meeting with the Chief Ministers of eight north-eastern States at the State Convention Centre here as he was unable to give a clear stand on the ILP.

Early in the morning in a serious instance of security lapse, a youth slipped through the security parameters put in place by the district administration. He was holding a banner demanding ILP. This incident happened when the convoy of Amit Shah reached Sohra.

When contacted, the police informed that security will be increased in the State keeping in mind the outcome of the displeasure of various NGOs on their demand of implementing ILP in Meghalaya. Earlier, KSU (Khasi Student Union) president Lambokstar Marngar said that the NGOs would soon meet to discuss on the next course of action amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
