AIZAWL: The Lunglei Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) Assam Rifles conducted a number of programmes across Mizoram.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING ON CARPENTRY: The battalion conducted vocational training camp on carpentry for locals of Parva Village for 26 days from February 9 to March 9. It was attended by 10 individuals.

After completion of the training, the following items were also handed over to the village administration: Two each of rectangular sharpening stones and files; one each of professional drilling machine, flat carbon steel cold chisel, hammer with wooden handle, handsaw with wooden handle, sledge hammer with handle, flat alloy steel cold chisel and flat carbon steel cold chisel.

The programme was conducted as a goodwill gesture towards locals under the Directorate General Assam Rifles Civic Action Programme, for the year 2020-21.

The local people and the Civil Administration appreciated the gesture on part of Assam Rifles and stated that such programmes will go a long way in further consolidating the harmonious relationship prevailing between the locals and the Assam Rifles.

FIT INDIA MOVEMENT AT LUNGLEI: The Battalion organized a run for fitness under 'Fit India Movement' at Lunglei . A total of 84 Assam Rifles personnel and 102 civilians participated in the event. The event aims at make individuals mentally and physically robust. The event sent a strong message to be physically active and improve one's health.

DISTRIBUTION OF ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES: The battalion distributed essential commodities to a families whose farms was destroyed because of fire incident at Pukpui Village on March 2, 2021. Similarly, on the eve of Chapcharkut Festival-2021, the Lunglei Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles distributed essential commodities for Charity Home Lorrainville distributed at Village Saiko on March 6.

DISTRIBUTION OF SINTEX WATER TANKS: Commander of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, Brigadier Digvijay Singh handed over seven Sintex water tanks — each of 500 litre capacity — to Village court, church and school at Simnasura Village by on March 4.

The programme was undertaken as a goodwill gesture towards the locals under the Directorate General Assam Rifles for the year 2020-21.

The gesture was appreciated by the locals and the civil administration. The programme on the part of Assam Rifles and their concern will go a long way in further consolidating the harmonious relations prevailing between the locals and the Assam Rifles.

SOLAR STREET LIGHTS DISTRIBUTED: Living upto the motto "Friends of the North East", the Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles distributed five solar street lights to the villagers of New Ngharchhip in District Hnahthial of Mizoram on March 5.

The distribution was carried out under the 'Assam Rifles Civic Action Programme'. The function was attended by villagers including the Village Council president and other prominent personalities.

The scheme will facilitate electrification of streets in the village and provide a secure environment post sundown and infuse a sense of security in the village. Furthermore, the project will also boost infrastructure and economic development of the remote village.

While rendering the vote of thanks, the villagers expressed their gratitude towards Assam Rifles for providing the public-utility facilities in the area. The project has further strengthened the bond between the civil populace and the Assam Rifles, stated press releases of the Assam Rifles.
