Assam Rifles seized 20,000 methamphetamine tablets in Mizoram

AIZAWL: In a major success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of HQ 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) recovered 20,000 methamphetamine tablets in the general area of Chhungtein Mizoram on June 24.

The operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles and Customs Department Champhai, and 20 FIT Champhai District based on specific information.

The approximate value of the recovered methamphetamine tablets is around Rs 1,00,00,000. Two persons have been detained in this connection.

Ongoing smuggling of illegal goods is a major cause of concern for the State of Mizoram. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of Northeast' have been successful in launching such operations against the smuggling activities in Mizoram, stated a release.
