

AIZAWL: Mizoram Governor Gen (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), made his inaugural official visit to Kolasib town on Saturday, where he convened a significant meeting with department heads, Vice Chancellors, and representatives from non-governmental organizations at the District Commissioner’s Conference Hall.
At the meeting, Governor Singh discussed the strategic importance of Kolasib district and referred to it as the "lifeline of the state." He raised the issue of road connectivity of the district and requested officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to accelerate the process of construction work. The Governor promised to continue support and monitoring to resolve such infrastructure-related problems.
While speaking about law enforcement, the Governor commended local agencies for their work in addressing drug trafficking and associated problems. He also noted the alarming increase in drug abuse among the young people and urged a concerted effort to address this critical issue.
The Governor underlined the significance of proper implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes for living standards improvement. He recommended establishing a special dashboard to track improvements in such programmes. The Governor also called for more intensive farm practices and enhanced marketing strategies, particularly in managing the issues relating to jhum cultivation.
On his arrival at the Kolasib helipad, the Governor was received with a ceremonial guard of honor by District Commissioner Pu Robert Lalhmangaiha. The sitting was presided over by Pu Lalhmangaiha, who briefed the district's profile, while Superintendent of Police Pu David H. Lalthangliana gave an overview of the local security scenario.
