Myanmar National Apprehended In Mizoram With Rs 1.24 Crore Unaccounted Cash

AIZAWL: A significant amount of unaccounted cash was recovered by police and security forces in Champhai, Mizoram.

Acting on a specific tip-off, Assam Rifles personnel, in coordination with Mizoram Police, seized Indian currency notes worth Rs. 1.24 crore in Ngur village, Champhai district.

During the operation, the team apprehended a 26-year-old Myanmar national identified as Lianbiaksang.

The unaccounted cash, consisting of Rs. 500, Rs. 200 and Rs. 100 denominations, were handed over to the police for further investigation, according to a statement from Assam Rifles.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, a joint operation by Assam Rifles’ Field Intelligence unit in Silchar and Katigorah Police led to the recovery of a significant amount of fake currency notes. Cachar SP Nomal Mahatta said that the operation was conducted in Katigorah market based on reliable inputs. During the raid, a smuggler named Sajib Uddin Majumdar was apprehended.

Sajib was traveling in a passenger auto rickshaw when he was caught with the fake currency. A total of 160 counterfeit Rs. 500 notes, amounting to Rs. 80,000, were recovered from his possession. Along with the fake currency, two mobile handsets and some incriminating documents were also seized.

According to police sources, Sajib hailed from Ganirgram, Fourth Block, in Cachar. He was reportedly involved in various illegal activities for a long time. The operation was conducted based on information provided by the Field Intelligence Group of Assam Rifles in Silchar.
