Early Life

Gopi Nath Das is the son of Gosta Bihari Sarkar and Late Surjya Bala Sarkar. He is a resident of Dokuchi village in the district of Kamrup, Assam. He got married to Smt. Gauri Das on the 6th of March, 1992, and is blessed with a son. He is 59 years of age and is a businessman and agriculturist by profession. 

Education

B.A. (Hons.) from Bimala Prasad Chaliha College, Nagarbera, under Gauhati university in the year 1983. 

Career and Politics

Gopi Nath Das is an ex-MLA from the Boko (SC) constituency of Assam. He was elected in the year 1985 as an Independent candidate, in the years 1991 and 2001 as an INC candidate, and the year 2011 as an AIUDF candidate. 

He won the 2011 Assam Assembly election from Boko constituency by defeating his nearest rival INC's Jayanta Das by 10,691 votes. Gopi Nath Das secured 54,388 votes compared to Jayanta Das who secured 43,697 votes. The voter turnout that year was 83.27 percent. 

He lost the 2016 Assam Assembly to INC's Nandita Das who secured 69,986 votes compared to his 42,338 votes. He came third in the race of 6 candidates. The voter turnout for that year was 89.05 percent. 

Gopi Nath Das will be contesting the upcoming 2021 Assam Assembly election from the Boko (SC) constituency on an All India Trinamool Congress ticket. 

Assets

According to the nomination filed with the Election Commission of India, he and his spouse's moveable assets are worth Rs. 1,15,30,925 and Rs. 80,17,454 respectively and their immovable assets are worth Rs. 8,00,000 and Rs. 31,00,000 respectively.
