1971 Indian-Pakistan War Hero Brig. Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri Passes Away

Guwahati: Brigadier Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri, who was one of the remarkable heroes of the 1971 war, passes away on Saturday morning. At the time of his death, Chandpuri was 78 years old and also was the senior-most military veteran to have fought for India in the 1971 war against Pakistan.

Brigadier Chandpuri was also the recipient of country’s second highest gallantry award, Mahavir Chakra. Late Brigadier is better known after Sunny Deol played the role the war hero in JP Dutta made film ‘Border’. The film depicts the true story of the war that took place on the night of 5/6 December in 1971 when Pakistan launched a massive attack with 51 Infantry Brigades for capturing the Longewala and Ramgarh posts in India.

As stated by his son Hardeep Singh Chandpuri, the deceased will be cremated as and when the other son of late Chandpuri returns from Germany.
