Siliguri: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday held a meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and senior officials in Siliguri to review four helplines launched by the state government to receive complaints related to extortion, syndicate activities and other alleged illegal practices.

The four toll-free helplines are 155334 for extortion, 155335 for syndicate-related complaints, 155337 for illegal road and toll tax collection, and 155339 for complaints related to illegal liquor.

Shah said people can directly register complaints related to these issues through the four helplines and assured that swift action would be taken on complaints received.

In a post on X, Shah said the initiative was aimed at addressing extortion and illegal collections in the state. He alleged that people in West Bengal had faced extortion, syndicate activities and illegal collections during the previous government.

Shah also claimed that the BJP government was working to dismantle what he described as an entrenched system of extortion and illegal collections.

The meeting in Siliguri focused on the functioning of the four helplines and the mechanism for ensuring timely action on complaints. Senior state government officials were also present during the meeting.

The helplines are intended to provide residents with a direct channel to report alleged extortion, syndicate operations, unauthorised toll collections and illegal liquor activities to the authorities.
