Goalpara: Launching a scathing attack on the Congress, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday alleged that the party had turned Assam into a hub for infiltrators and warned of further infiltration if it returns to power.
“The Congress party turned Assam into a hub for infiltrators. If their government comes to power, infiltrators will infiltrate even within our tribal areas,” Shah said while addressing a rally in Goalpara.
The Home Minister urged voters to bring the Bharatiya Janata Party back to power for a third term so that strict action can be taken against illegal entrants.
“Give us five years, and we will selectively remove the identified infiltrators,” he said.
Speaking about the BJP’s outreach to tribal communities, Shah said that it was only under Prime Minister Narendra Modi that a tribal woman, Droupadi Murmu, was elevated to the post of President.
“Seventy-five years had passed, but they never made a single tribal woman the President. Only PM Modi elevated our sister Droupadi Murmu to the position,” he said.
The Home Minister also compared allocations for tribal welfare and claimed that the budget for tribal development saw a significant rise under the current government.
He further said the Centre has promoted tribal art, culture and traditions at the global level.
Later, Shah questioned the lack of dairy infrastructure in the region and promised that the BJP would establish a large dairy unit in every district of Assam. He also said that each tribal household would be provided with one cow and one buffalo if the party returns to power.
