Accused arrested while visiting family of businessman killed on honeymoon
Indore, August 16 – A dismissed Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, Bajranglal Jat, has been arrested for impersonating an RPF officer while visiting the family of murdered transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi.
The 45-year-old, originally from Churu district, Rajasthan, arrived at Raghuvanshi’s home in Indore on August 14, wearing the uniform of an RPF station house officer. His suspicious behaviour prompted the family to alert local police.
According to Rajendra Nagar police station in-charge Neeraj Birthare, Jat claimed he had met Raghuvanshi nearly a decade ago at Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain and had come to pay his respects after learning of his death. However, an investigation revealed Jat was dismissed from RPF service 4–5 years ago over alleged irregularities.
"We've learned that Jat has been mentally disturbed since his dismissal and often roams around in uniform, falsely identifying himself as an officer," Birthare said.
He has been booked under Section 205 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for impersonating a public servant with intent to deceive.
Raghuvanshi went missing on May 23 during his honeymoon in Meghalaya. His body was recovered on June 2 in a gorge near a waterfall in Sohra (Cherrapunji). Police later arrested his wife Sonam, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, and six others for plotting and executing the murder.
The case has shocked the region and continues to unfold with multiple twists.
