Guwahati: Assam Minister Atul Bora on Wednesday said the government is committed to ensuring the welfare, dignity and empowerment of tea garden workers in the state.
His remarks came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited tea gardens in Dibrugarh and interacted with workers, particularly women.
Taking to micro-blogging site X, Bora said tea is deeply linked to Assam’s identity and pride, and described Modi’s interaction with tea garden workers as an emotional moment for the people of the state.
"Under the leadership of Modi Ji, our government remains committed to the welfare, dignity, and empowerment of every tea garden worker. From improving living conditions to ensuring better healthcare, education, and livelihoods — their progress is our priority," he said.
Bora also said that the contribution of tea garden workers has played a key role in shaping Assam’s legacy and taking its name across the world.
Speaking about government initiatives, Bora said that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, steps are being taken to improve living conditions and provide better healthcare, education and livelihood opportunities for tea garden workers.
He also welcomed Modi to Assam, stating that the government remains focused on the overall development of the tea garden community.
