Guwahati: Today, a man was arrested from the Hatigaon , Guwahati for allegedly defrauding a businessman from Gujarat in a financial fraud involving nearly Rs 50 lakh. The accused, identified as Boni Nongthombam, was arrested by the Gujarat Police with the assistance of the Cyber Cell of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Assam, and Hatigaon Police.
As per police team, around Rs 50 lakh, allegedly transferred by a Gujarat-based businessman, was traced to the accused's bank account during the course of the investigation. After examining the financial transactions, the Gujarat Police tracked the accused's location to Guwahati.
Acting on the information, a joint operation was launched with the support of local police, leading to Nongthombam's arrest from Hatigaon.
Police have not disclosed the exact nature of the alleged fraud or whether other individuals were involved. Police said the investigation is continuing to establish the full extent of the financial transactions and identify any additional suspects connected to the case.
