New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi and briefed her on the state’s ongoing flood response and recovery efforts.
In a post on social media, Sarma said he apprised the Finance Minister of the ongoing assessment of damage caused by the floods and the government’s roadmap for rebuilding affected areas and restoring the livelihoods of flood-hit families.
Sarma described Sitharaman as a strong supporter of Assam’s interests and aspirations and said she listened to the state’s concerns with “great attention and sensitivity”.
The Chief Minister said Sitharaman had assured him of the Centre’s continued support as Assam works towards rehabilitation and reconstruction following the floods.
He expressed gratitude to the Finance Minister for her response and for assuring that the Government of India would stand firmly with Assam during the recovery process.
The meeting comes as the Assam government continues to assess damage to infrastructure, livelihoods and other assets following the recent floods and work on measures to support affected families.
