INDIA Bloc Extends Farewell Dinner Invite to Jagdeep Dhankhar

In a politically charged gesture, the opposition INDIA bloc has invited former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar to a farewell dinner, days after his unexpected resignation.

While the official reason for his departure was cited as health-related, the Congress party alleges deeper, undisclosed reasons behind the move.

The Congress has been particularly vocal, claiming that Dhankhar was “forced” to resign after he accepted a notice from Opposition MPs seeking the removal of Justice Yashwant Varma—an issue that gained traction following the recovery of burnt currency notes at the judge’s residence. According to reports, this may have put Dhankhar at odds with sections of the ruling establishment.

Despite the significance of his constitutional role, Dhankhar was not allowed to deliver a farewell speech in the Rajya Sabha. Opposition members raised this concern during the Working Advisory Committee meeting, calling the omission undignified and politically motivated.

In response, the INDIA bloc has taken it upon itself to honour Dhankhar with a farewell dinner, aiming to give him the respectful send-off they believe he deserves. However, sources suggest it is unlikely that Dhankhar will attend the event, given the growing tensions and the politicisation of his resignation.

His resignation also comes just months after he faced the rare prospect of impeachment—becoming the first Vice President to receive a no-confidence notice, though it was ultimately rejected.

The farewell row now risks becoming a fresh flashpoint in an already polarised political landscape, as parties trade barbs over protocol, power, and propriety.
