ISRO Launches its Latest Communication Satellite GSAT-29

Guwahati: The Indian Space Research Organisation launched its latest communication satellite GSAT-29 at 5.08 pm on Wednesday. The satellite is launched to be put in its orbit by India’s heavy-lift rocket Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-Mk III).

Notably, the GSLV Mk III is a rocket designated to be India’s first human spaceflight proposed for 2022. With the launch of the rocket today, India has marked a remarkable move as this is a key test to the GSLV Mk III. The satellite carries the GSAT-29 weighing 3,423 kg and slings it into Geo Transfer Orbit (GTO) just over 16 minutes into its flight.

The satellite is launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh and will be the third flight undertaken by ISRO’s most powerful rocket.

With this flight of Wednesday, the GSLV Mk III has gone for a second developmental flight for the rocket as before this as well, it had undergone one experimental and one developmental flight.
