Lat Mondal of Dispur Revenue Circle caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 8000

Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a Lat Mondal of Dispur Revenue Circle, Basistha, Guwahati was caught red-handed by the Assam ACB Team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police, while the accused was accepting bribe amount of Rs. 8,000 from complainant Parag Chandra Bhagawati, R/O- Bhagaduttapur, Beltola, PS: Dispur, Guwahati today afternoon at around 2 pm.

The accused was identified as Lachit Thakuria, age 57 years.

It is to be noted that the bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused. Connected documents have also been seized from the O/O the Circle Officer, Dispur Revenue Circle, Basistha, Guwahati.

The complainant had applied for obtaining sale permission for six residential flats to the Office of the DC Kamrup (M) through the Circle Officer Dispur. The said sale permissions were recorded at the office of the CO on 05-03-2019. But the concerned dealing Mandal namely Lachit Thakuria adamant in demanding bribe money amount to Rs. 8,000 for each flat sale permission basis. The complainant was being compelled to pay the bribe amount.

As the complainant was unwilling to pay the bribe money, he approached the ACB PS in the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, Guwahati and accordingly a trap was laid down as per standard procedure in the matter of ACB PS Case No. 12/2019 dated 01/10/2019 under section 7(a) of the PC Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) and led to his arrest today while accepting the bribe amount. Further investigative steps are being taken.

The accused public servant has been arrested and will be forwarded to the CJM Court Guwahati, Assam, Guwahati, on 12/10/2019. Due procedures are observed.
