Mary Kom enters into the Semi Finals, is just two steps away from another Gold

Guwahati: Mary Kom, the 5 time World Championship gold medallist, secures another win at the present AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. The North-east Indian boxer defeating China’s Wu Yu, 5-0 in the light flyweight (48kg) category qualified for the semifinals of the world championship.

In the next round, the Indian boxer will be facing North Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi in the semis. With this win on Tuesday, Mary Kom now is just 2 wins away from her 6th world title.

Together with her, Assam’s Lovlina Borgohain and Bhagyabati Kachari have also entered quarterfinal bout in their respective weight categories.

Currently, 35-year-old Mary Kom is sharing the list of highest medal earners with Katie Taylor as both the boxers are on top with five gold medals. With one more gold medal in her kitty, Mary Kom will become the most successful woman boxer in history as the Irish pugilist has turned a Pro.

Popularly known as ‘Magnificent Mary’; the boxer from Manipur will fight in the 48 kg category and fighting for this gold will be even more important for her as she will be contesting her opponent in front of the home crowd.

Despite all the expectations and dreams, the female boxer is well aware that the road to gold will not be easy. Before this, the boxer had to be satisfied with a bronze only in the 2012 Olympics.
