Lausanne: Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra finished second at the Lausanne Diamond League after producing a season-best throw of 88.05 metres, missing out on the top spot by just 9 centimetres.

Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won the event with a throw of 88.14 metres. Pathirage took the lead with his third attempt, while neither he nor Chopra could improve their marks in the remaining rounds.

Chopra’s 88.05m effort marked his return to the 88-metre range after a challenging start to the 2026 season. The performance also provided a significant boost ahead of the upcoming competitions.

Grenada’s Anderson Peters finished third with a best throw of 86.69 metres, while Kenya’s Keshorn Walcott secured fourth place with 83.71 metres.

Despite finishing second, Chopra’s Lausanne performance underlined his improving form. The two-time Olympic medallist, however, continues to wait for his next victory after his last triumph at the Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru in July 2025.
