Guwahati: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday urged voters in Assam to back the Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming Assembly elections if they want to save Assam.
Addressing a public meeting in the Palasbari Vidhan Sabha constituency, Gadkari stressed that both Assam and the country’s progress depend on a strong mandate for the Bharatiya Janata Party.
He called on people to support the party in the upcoming polls to secure sustained development.
"you must ensure that the Bharatiya Janata Party wins this election with an absolute majority," he added.
The Union Minister also raised concerns over illegal immigration, questioning whether foreign nationals entering the country without authorisation should be granted voting rights. He asserted that no nation can allow such practices and emphasised the need to safeguard Assam’s future.
"Should foreign nationals entering the country illegally be given voting rights? No nation can allow such unauthorised entry. We must protect Assam and the country, and ensure their development," he added.
His remarks come amid intensified campaigning ahead of the Assembly elections in the state.
