Guwahati: The Veteran Assamese actress Malaya Goswami has been selected for the prestigious Bhaben Baruah Award 2026 in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Assam's art, cinema and cultural heritage.
The award, instituted by the Nalbari District Committee of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) in memory of eminent theatre personality Bhaben Baruah, has been presented annually since 2009 to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the fields of art and culture.
The honour carries a cash prize of Rs 15,000, along with a memento, citation, xorai, gamusa and seleng, symbolising Assam's rich cultural traditions.
Malaya Goswami will be presented with the award on 3rd September at Nalbari Natya Mandir during the second day of the Bhaben Baruah All Assam Children's Drama Competition. The annual event aims to nurture young theatrical talent while celebrating the state's vibrant performing arts heritage.
The award acknowledges Goswami's remarkable career spanning several decades in Assamese cinema and theatre. Widely regarded as one of the state's most accomplished actors, she has played a significant role in enriching Assam's cultural landscape and continues to inspire generations through her enduring contribution to the performing arts.
