Guwahati: The Assam Railway Passengers' Association has requested the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway authority to reschedule a few trains for the convenience of passengers and also to boost business.

In a recent letter to the Divisional Railway Manager of the Rangia Division, the association mentioned that train No 05893 (Rangia-Rangapara North) passenger service was rescheduled a few years back from 6.20 pm to 7.20 pm to facilitate the Rangapara North-bound passengers who, after discharging their business at Guwahati, travel back by train No 05802 (Guwahati-New Bongaigaon) 'Manas Rhino' up to Rangia. The association has requested that this connection is ensured again.

The association also mentioned that No 05821 (Rangia-Dekargaon) passenger train leaves Rangia at 6:20 am while train No 05810 (Guwahati-New Bongaigaon) arrives at Rangia at 6:16 am and, as such, a passenger from Guwahati can reach Rangapara at 9:30 am if a slight rescheduling is done. A good number of people will be able to avail of the service of train No 05821 if it is revised at 6:30 am, the association said.

The association further mentioned that train No 15895 (Rangia-Murkongselek) departs at 8:10 am from Rangia and just after 10 minutes of its departure train No 15769 (Alipurduar-Lumding) arrives at Rangia at 8:20 am. Similarly, train No 20501 (Agartala Tejas Rajdhani) reaches Rangia at 8:20 am. The association has suggested that in order to facilitate the travel of passengers coming from Agartala, Badarpur, Hojai and Kokrajhar to Murkongselek, the Rangia-Murkongselek train should be rescheduled at 8:30 am.

The departure time of train No 15754 (Chifung) from Guwahati has been revised to 12:40 pm which has proven to be a major blow for suburban passengers. On the other hand, the association pointed out that train No 15658 (Brahmaputra Mail) leaves Kamakhya at 2:35 pm. The overcrowded Chifung is running as an empty train now as no service is available in the second half from Guwahati towards Rangia, Nalbari, Barpeta Road, Bongaigaon etc. The association suggested that the Chifung be rescheduled for 3:15 pm.
